PERSEPHONE ON THE WATER

No matter where we live, or where we go, our relationship to natural spaces is often in

conflict. We are at once animals and industrialists. We are individuals, yet part of a group.

The history of Laurel Lake and Pine Grove Furnace State Park is a testament to this, as is

Persephone’s divided self.

Persephone on the Water is an experiment in site specific, outdoor performance – a hallmark

of performing arts collective Valley Traction; featuring live musicians, and a movement-based

retelling of the Persephone myth occurring partially in the water. This performance is an

aspect of Valley Traction’s ongoing interpretation of local history.
